Many people I know and I’m sure many I don’t know have a sugar addiction. I know I did before I went to culinary school for baking and then lost my sweet tooth. Not everyone can or wants to go the route I did. There is a much easier way to tame that sugar craving and addiction. It’s easier than you think! All it takes is one simple rule.
That is the rule of 9. What that means is you should look for foods or sweets that have a max of 9 grams of sugar or less per serving, and only buy those. We all know sugar can cause major weight gain and really cause you to become unhealthy.
Even if you drink diet soda or juice, they can have a lot of extra sugar to them. And we all know the fake sugar is even worse for you than actual regular white sugar. If you want juice, try making your own fresh juice. A medium orange has about 9 grams of sugar whereas an 8 ounce glass of OJ can have up to 24 ounces! So definitely keep a lookout for those extra sugars. As for the soda, just get rid of that all together.
On average our bodies only need about 32 grams of sugar a day to function. Unfortunately most of us take in about 100 grams a day. That’s a lot of extra sugar to take in!
So when you go grocery shopping, be sure to read the labels on everything! I mean everything you eat from breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Stick to this rule and you can help dramatically decrease your sugar intake.
