With the holidays around the corner, it’s time to travel smart.
Many will be traveling by air. This brings to mind what not to wear and what to bring in your carry on bag on your journey for a comfortable flight. Sure it’s nice to look great and feel good in your clothes and shoes, but there are some things to consider when flying that have helped me.
1. Shoes: This is number one on my list. Uncomfortable shoes can make your flight time miserable. Plus walking around the terminal your feet are going to suffer. With all the comfy slip on shoes that are available I suggest purchasing a comfortable pair of slip-ons. I like Skechers GoWalk slip-ons. They are very comfortable and great for travel. Plus going through security they slip on and slip off.
2. Clothing: I have always been a fan of joggers for traveling. They are comfortable and easy to travel in. Tops I usually go for cotton because it’s breathable! One can look stylish with joggers and a nice cotton top. There are jogging sets as well. Layering is a good idea as well. Sometimes flights can be cold inside the cabin. Especially from a cold climate to a warmer destination or vice versa.
3. Perfume or cologne: Please be considerate of your fellow passengers. I was on a flight last year and a gentlemen who sat next to me had an over abudance of cologne on. I love colognes and perfume, but overdoing it is offensive. The entire trip I had a headache. Plus some people can even be allergic to it. I avoid all together wearing perfume while I travel.
4. The carry-on bag: I would suggest finding out what size your airline allows for carry-ons. If it’s too large they will remove it and send it through luggage. This could cause you to get charged for a second piece of luggage. My preference is my backpack. With many pockets and a deep middle section it makes for a perfect carry-on. First I make a list of everything I want to bring in my carry-on. I have found this to be very helpful. With liquids the limit is 3.4-oz containers in a quart sized bag when sealed. If it’s over 3.4-oz it will be taken by security. It has happened to me in the past. I usually pack in my carry-on an extra outfit, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, hairbrush, lip stick, kleenex, earplugs, aspirin, small dixie cup and hand sanitizer. This somewhat covers my needs if my luggage gets lost. At least I can clean up at my place of stay until my luggage arrives. This also prepared me for an unexpected layover. You’ll be glad you have those items in your carry-on should any of these events happen. Then I go on with my other items in my carry on. From magazines, gifts, Ipad etc. I carry those on as well. I don’t recommend putting anything of value in your luggage like jewelery. Keep these in your carry-on. The list is endless on what one carries-on, but for me these items are a must.
Quick note: If traveling abroad it’s most important to purchase travel and health insurance. It’s a good thing to have on hand. You never know. Your luggage could get stolen, lost or you need medical attention. Happy Trails and travel smart!
